babyMauro Gonzalez was born in the city of San Nicolas de los Arroyos, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He became involved in the arts at an early age. For seven years, he studied drawing and painting at the Art Institute. At the age of ten, he started taking keyboard lessons with a professional tango pianist.

Over the next three years he developed a passion for tango music. He remembers, "There was nothing in the world that I would rather do but spend those Sunday afternoons watching the pianisSan Nicholast and his tango quartet play". At the age of sixteen he moved to California with his family. Eightyears later, Mauro moved to Houston as a young Piazzola fan always dreaming of dancing to the complex style of his music.

tmIn 1998, Mauro took his first steps as a Tango dancer. By 2004, he was able to devote more time to dancing and teaching. He has taken many lessons with a number of great masters both in Houston as well as in Argentina.

Mauro's style of dancing is the traditional Tango salon. This method has a unique versatility that allows for different styles of dancing. For example, open and closnse embrace, canyengue, and tango fantasia, also called performance style. Mauro'sgoal is to teach and share is knowledge with his students.

Mauro continues to dance and teach tango in Houston. He enjoys traveling to Argentina to rediscover the dance and spend time in his native land. He also travels around the United States to attend workshops and various tango events.

He has been invited to do countless tango performances for private events, community programs,and professional dance companies both in the US and in Argentina. His dream is to have a tango studio and dance cafe.
